Manaslu (8,163) is the eight highest mountains in the world. It is located about 40 miles east of Annapurna, the tenth highest mountain. Located on Northern region of Gorkha, Manaslu is dominant peak with wall of snow and ice hanging in the sky. The mountains long ridges and valley glaciers offer feasible approaches from all directions, and it culminates in a peak that towers steeply above its surroundings landscape, and is dominant features when seen from afar. The name Manaslu is derived from the Sanskrit word Manasa and can be roughly translated as mountain of the spirit.

An all-female Japanese expedition successfully ascended to the summit, thereby becoming the first women to climb an 8,000-meter peak. Mount Manaslu was first climbed in 1953 by a Japanese team north face expedition. Just as the British considered Everest their mountain, Manaslu 8163 meter has been always regarded as the “Japanese mountain” by the Japanese; because of the Japanese people’s first conquered on its top.

Mount Manaslu is located in Manaslu Conservation area declared by Nepal Government in 1998 to safeguard flora and fauna of the region. This region comprises sub tropical on low lands to Alpine on higher elevation. The bio diversity is different as changes on Climatic zone. Starting from Arughat till the Manaslu Peak this region comprises six different climates. The bordering regions to Tibet lies under Trans Himalayan section.

The best period for Manaslu Expedition is at “Spring” or “Pre Monsoon” time. Bad Climate with Snow fall and Avalanches are the major obstacles on Manaslu Peak Climbing. Climbers also terms Manaslu as 4th most dangerous peak above 8000 meters.
